Should have left the product unopened. I was impressed up to that point. You can’t play the CD’s in your car, or the videos on your TV. Welcome to the modern age I suppose. The audio is horrible and so is the video. Thanks for the free resource, but I threw it in the trash. Sorry. I hate to throw NT Wright in the garbage, but you cannot understand half of what he’s saying- not because he is British, but because someone forgot their sound engineer at the hotel en route to record the sessions. One star is generous.

I recieved the two disk- CD set, Soularize in a Box volume 2, as an unexpected suprise from Viral Bloggers. This set is a series of 20 lectures/ talks from a number of speakers, recorded at a conference. First and foremost, many of these talks (the speakers) advocate a unique emergent- movement, humanist/ secular style interpretation of the gospel message. In contrast to traditional bible based theology focusing on faith and eternal life, this style is based on social issues and works, and the need to deconstruct what is considered to be restrictive and antiquated in favor of an idea that truth is subjective and relative. The pluarilty of ideas is a hallmark of the emergent theology which seeks to disregard ideas that seem to be out of date or offensive. If you believe that theology is relative and that there are multiple paths to God, then you may appreciate these talks. Nevertheless , if you belief there are truths in the bible that transcend culture and time and that the message of the gospel is timeless and should never be comprimised or watered down to avoid offending someone, then perhaps you may not wish to spend 20 hours listening to/ watching the lectures on this CD .

I’ve been looking forward to listening to the CD in this set ever since it arrived in the mail. So, this week, with an 8 hour one-way trip ahead of me, I plopped it into the car CD player and was blessed beyond expectations. True, the first session with N.T. Wright had a lot of background noise, but the rest of the session were clear. This was followed by Rita N. Brock who inspired me to re-read her book, Saving Paradise, all over again!. The next few sessions with Richard Rohr secured my decision to buy all his books. There were a few other glitches in the CD set – a duplicate session, redundancy of announcements, & discussions where the questions couldn’t be heard. Spencer Burke was the 20th session – and for me, as a pastor, his presentation was worth the price of the whole CD. Except for a few quality issues, this CD set is a must hear, life-changing treasure. I was also able to view without problem the DVD, which was, by the way, even more engaging.

This CD/DVD set is good, insofar as it has incredible speakers, and a very artsy cover and packaging. The issue at hand here, is that it is quite impossible to hear the majority of what N.T. Wright (and others) are saying without having the drive to say a swear word because the lacking audio quality.
I think this CD/DVD combo would be great if the adequate time and effort was placed into the audio quality as it was into the cover and casing itself.
A few notes about the speakers (from what I was able to hear): The round table session was wonderful, it seems like N.T. Wright always has something to say that shakes the paradigm of thought within the church. Also, the speaking on “Thank God for Evolution” was quite interesting and thought provoking in producing a theology in praxis from evolutionary theory.
